The North Face Clothing, Footwear & Equipment

For over 50 years The North Face has been inspiring generations to never stop in their search for adventure. Founded in 1966, The North Face has evolved from two hiking enthusiasts running a small mountaineering store in San Francisco, to an innovative brand that has universal outdoor appeal.

A leader in the development of performance clothing, footwear and equipment for all adventure types, The North Face is proud that it has been the first choice for outdoor enthusiasts for generations. From mountain summit to Monday morning commute, The North Face guarantees a great fit and dependable performance.

History of The North Face

The North Face legend began in unassuming circumstances. The brand’s name is taken from the coldest, most unforgiving side of a mountain and they have helped countless explorers reach the towering peaks within the Himalayas, and yet the brand began on San Francisco’s North Beach, just 150 feet above sea level. Here, in 1966 two friends began designing premium backpacking and climbing equipment. The quality and sustainability of the product they sold led to tremendous growth as enthusiasts flocked to get The North Face gear. The 60s saw the brand gain a following amongst outdoor athletes and they began to sponsor challenging expeditions around the world. This planted the seed for the mission statement behind The North Face’s mantra ‘Never Stop Exploring’.

In the 1970s The North Face developed a revolutionary geodesic dome tent and premium sleeping bags which changed the way that people camped in harsh environments, setting a benchmark within the outdoor industry. It was at this time that the brand also introduced GORE-TEX® waterproof technology into their range of jackets, a partnership which they continue to this day.

The 1980s saw the brand’s popularity grow further as it expanded its extreme skiing collection, suitable for severe cold weather.

Pushing on into the 90s, The North Face’s appeal broadened as it was welcomed into the world of Hip Hop. People liked the combination of performance and street-presence that insulated jackets like the iconic Nuptse jacket offered and so the brand became a staple on the street. The North Face was also growing its appeal on the mountainside, ski slope and hill. Fit and function remained at the core of the brand’s product offering and the brand began appearing regularly on ultramarathon courses, long-distance trails and big climbs. As we rolled into the millennium The North Face launched its own line of trekking and trail-running shoes, meaning you could now dress yourself head to toe in The North Face gear, whatever your adventure.

Fast-forward to today and Millets is immensely proud to stock a diverse range of The North Face clothing, footwear, rucksacks and duffel bags. Core lines remain such as the ever-popular Nuptse insulated jacket, Sangro waterproof jacket, McMurdo men’s parka and the Basecamp duffel bag. We are also excited to share new and exciting developments within The North Face catalogue including the Hedgehog hiking shoe, the cosy Trevail down jacket and the exciting new lines in our kids’ collection.
