Get Crafty With Millets: How to Make a Leaf Crown

Advice & Guides 3 min read

As parents, you may be struggling to think of ways to get your kids outside, especially as days turn colder and darker. Or maybe you’re worried about keeping them busy over Christmas holidays. That’s where we come in! And the best thing? It’s all free.

We have put together a series of crafts that encourage your children to put down their screens, get their coats on and get arty. From making leaf selfies to creating Christmas crafts, we have lots coming up for them to get stuck into.

So, supervise and hand it over. This one’s for them!

In this blog, we’ll be making our own leaf crowns. You can be the ruler of all trees in this crown, and maybe even get to boss your parents around! After all, you are your highness. Follow our step-by-step guide to make your very own, or check out our video here.

First off, let’s start off with what you’ll need. This will require a mini forage outside, so get your boots on!

Step one: Making the base.

If you have a tape measure - perfect - measure your head and match it to the paper.

If not, try using twine or stick the paper around your head to find out how much you need.

Then cut the paper to make a thick band for the base following your measurements.

Secure this together with staples or sticky tape.

Step two: Find some leaves and get sticking.

Get your coats on and pick up some leaves. Those brown and orange ones on the floor are made to be crowns! Once you have a good handful, of varied sizes and colours, it’s time to get sticking.

Once you’ve got your favourite leaves, it’s time to stick them down. Using either a stapler or glue stick, place them down one by one and layer they up to add texture.

Step three: Stick down and complete.

Now you have your crown! Pop it on your head and make sure everybody knows who’s boss.
