Great coat, strange sizing guide

This is the third one of these jackets I’ve bought and they’re all still in daily use .i have lots of different coats but thes are my favourites
Sleeves
Sleeves too long for husband, had to have them professionally altered.

I think this coat is sized to go as the outside layer which is odd for a puffy layer with thickness like this. It's a great coat. Very comfortable. Nice and warm. Simple in design and has two non-zipped pockets. Nice high collar into the hood to keep the wind out. But the sizing must be with several additional inches on the chest assuming people would be adding extra layers underneath. I'm a 40 chest and this guide suggests a Medium or Large. I didn't want to wait for posting so went into a shop and a Small fit me perfectly. I suggest going into the shop to try it on.
