What are the origins of the fleece?
Named after the coat of a sheep, the fleece is a relatively new innovation in the field – originating in its modern form around the late 1970s and moving into the mainstream in the 90s. Often constructed using polyester, this garment type offers exceptional comfort, excellent for either layering in colder conditions or wearing as a single layer in warmer conditions.
What is the difference between fleece and wool?
Fleece has steadily replaced wool garments as a leader in the layering market due to a couple of key advantages it holds over it. Wool is animal-made, while fleeces are man-made. Fleece dries considerably quicker than wool, making it the more convenient choice for manufacturers to provide high-quality products. Additionally, it is considered much more comfortable, less itchy, more breathable, and lightweight.
Can my fleece be put in the washing machine?
Yes, most can be washed in the washing machine. A gentle cycle and a lower water temperature are typically optimum. However, most products will have instructions for washing on the label near the neck—follow these instructions as a priority.
